Extracting silage with ease
The most important thing is
the feed velocity
The product always remains dry

Excavating silage is made a lot easier with the Kornet cover system. The roughage remains optimally fresh and dry and you can work quickly, which also saves time.
For slot silos with a height of 3 meters it is possible to excavate 0.50 to 1.50 metres above ground level. This gives an optimal value for your roughage because there is much more pressure in your product. When silaging at height. The grass silage is compressed / compacted much better, so that it is closer together and becomes much less susceptible to heating. That also means fewer square metres to drive in, which is also easier for the shovel on the hump.
One of the most important things during excavating is the feed speed in the slot silo. Work with at least 1 metre per week, the best is 1.50 meters per week for dairy cows. For dairy goats we recommend 2 metres per week.
Otherwise, there is a great risk that you will get heating in the roughage, which immediately puts the feed ration at risk. Therefore, never build your slot silo too wide, but rather go up.
If you use the cover system, you can easily turn the cover back over your roughage, so that the cover hangs ± 50 cm. over it at the front (cutting edge). This way the product stays dry from the top and the wind cannot get under the cover.
The stretch cover is designed in such a way that the weight of the water hoses causes it to be pulled tightly over the hump. These water hoses have a diameter of Ø 350, which is 100 kg per linear metre. If a minimum of ± 50 cm is ensiled above the silo walls, the water drainage from the cover is optimal. The flap (75 cm.) of the cover lies over the slotted silo wall and ensures that no water can get between your slotted silo wall and the roughage.
After a few weeks the water hose will sink ± 15 cm. into your roughage, which means that the cover is even tighter and does not move. This is very beneficial for the conservation of the roughage!
Slot silos with earthen walls provide the most optimal cooling for the roughage on the sides. As a result, the quality remains much better intact and clean at the sides.
What is very important, is that the cattle farmer can work much safer with 3-metre- high slot silos, when they may need to hang the inner plastic (side foil) in the silo. Besides this, it gives a much better view of the cover system.
